Emma and Ryan married in September at St Francis of Assisi RC Church in Morley, before having their reception in a yurt at Applewood Weddings. If you’re looking for a venue for a woodland wedding in Leeds, Applewood is well worth a look!
Applewood is located in Scholes, just outside Leeds. It’s tucked away in a really quiet spot, down a small country lane, yet very accessible to Leeds and the main roads surrounding. This was our second wedding at the venue and we’ve experienced both sides of the coin–a warm day with some sunshine peaking through the trees, and a rainy grey day (this one!) where guests had to shelter in the yurt upon arrival as it was literally tipping it down! Either way, Applewood is still a beautiful spot.
A rainy woodland wedding?
If you’re worried about rain, but still want to have an outdoor wedding, my advice is simple. Firstly, bring wellies and umbrellas. Wellies actually look super cute under a bridal gown, and umbrellas not only keep you dry, but can feature in your wedding photos. Honestly, some of our most memorable days have been rainy weddings, but more so when the couple just go with it and embrace it. I always remember one bride from a few years ago now, who definitely didn’t let the rain stop her–she was out there jumping in puddles, having a whale of time. If her dress got a little bit dirty, who cares? It would forever show what an amazing day she had, and memories are worth more than worrying yourself silly over a little bit of mud, eh?
More about Applewood Weddings
Although it’s not yet licensed for civil ceremonies, you can still have a non legal ceremony here with a celebrant, or similar (and just do the legal bit beforehand or afterwards). There’s an area for ceremonies, a large decked area for your drinks reception and an open area for your marquee, yurt, or tipi. Pathways are lit by fairy lights so it’s all very dreamy and romantic, if an outdoor wedding is your kind of thing.
The team at Applewood are also great to work with. Nicola looks after each of their couples superbly, and as far as I can tell, they can’t do enough to help and assist along the way.
We love it here because you can choose to do your wedding your own way. It can look exactly how you want it to, you can choose your own caterers, and there’s a bar on site to serve all your guests.
Although there’s no on-site accommodation, being so close to Leeds means there are plenty of options close by.
A woodland wedding in Leeds
Emma and Ryan were a lovely couple to work with. Even with a bit of rain on their day, they were keen to get outside for some photos of the two of them. Thankfully, the downpours we arrived to eased off during the drinks reception, so after capturing lots of mingling inside the yurt, we headed outside for a few of those all important portrait shots. Then it was time for pie (woohoo!) before speeches and the evening do.
What did Emma and Ryan say about us?
“Thank you again for capturing our day perfectly, not a moment was missed and we love all the photos. You both worked really hard on the day and we really appreciate it. Extra thanks for going the extra mile and picking the buttonholes up along the way!”
Here are just a few of the images from Emma and Ryan’s day. We’re looking forward to returning to Applewood again in May this year. Let’s see what the weather holds for us this time round!
