There are photos that our couples love, and photos that we as photographers love. Sometimes those aren’t necessarily the same–just goes to show how people look at things differently! But the above photo is one of our definite favourites of the year. Hannah looks stunning in her knee-length dress and Hugh looks so dashing with their replica AC Cobra hire car.
After a rainy morning, it finally dried up on the way from the church to the reception. We pulled over for a few minutes to take some photos with the car and the surrounding views. And we’re so glad we had the opportunity to, thanks to Hannah and Hugh for being up for a photo session!
Much of what we do throughout a wedding day is documentary style, blending into the background and capturing moments as they happen. However, we also like to spend a little time with our couples for some portrait shots. It’s what we truly believe completes your photography as a whole! We ask for about 30 minutes, which isn’t a huge amount out of the day. We don’t always get it, but a lot of our couples book us because they want these kind of shots, as well as the documentary style photos. They understand what that takes, and that that time is actually some well deserved alone time for the two of you whilst your guests are mingling.
We can do nice portrait shots in a shorter amount of time, but what I will say is, the more time we have, the more it could take your images from ‘nice’ to ‘wow’. It just gives us that little bit more space to ‘work it’ and try different things outside of the ‘safe’ shot.
Hannah and Hugh’s day was a little bit rainy in the beginning, then a little bit chilly and dull for most of the rest of it. When the sun finally appeared just before it was about to go down in the evening (!) they were keen to get outside with us again in that precious time for a few more shots.
Hannah’s parents live in Eldroth, near Austwick, so it was there that they married in the very cute and tiny parish church. It was standing room only on the day which made for a really welcoming atmosphere as Hannah and her dad arrived, and squeezed through everyone to walk down the (very short) aisle!
The reception afterwards was held in tipis at Newton Grange, a Rural Retreat near Skipton. As Hannah and Hugh met on a ski trip, the decor had a ski theme and looked fantastic, with gorgeous bright colours as well.
