We were so pleased when Danielle and Will booked us for their National Centre for Early Music wedding photography in York. The NCEM was a new venue to us, and Danielle and Will’s plans sounded right up our street!
Danielle is American and was moving over to the UK to start a new life with Will in the beautiful city of York. They planned an intimate wedding with family and friends at the NCEM, a short walk from their home in the city centre.
More about the National Centre for Early Music
I have to admit, I wasn’t even aware of the NCEM until we met Danielle and Will, but what a lovely setting for a wedding.
The venue is set around the converted medieval church of St Margaret’s in Walmgate. Despite being in the centre of York, it’s peaceful and idyllic. If it weren’t for the church tower peeking over the walls, you’d probably never know it was there! Although it hasn’t functioned as a church since 1974, in 2000 it became the home of the NCEM, an educational music charity and concert venue.
Colin joined Will, getting ready at home nearby, whilst I joined Danielle with her family and bridesmaids at the NCEM. I loved that this wedding had many traditional elements, but that Will and Danielle put their own touch to those elements, doing things their own way.
After the ceremony, and some mingling in the church grounds, we headed over to the Museum Gardens for the happy couple’s portrait session. The NCEM itself can provide plenty of photo opportunities, but the Museum Gardens is a very special place to Danielle and Will. So that’s where we headed. Although it was very busy (Saturday afternoons in the summertime in York, always are!) we managed to photograph around the crowds and find a couple of quieter spots in the gardens for them to relax.
We returned to the venue for more mingling, followed by the wedding breakfast, dancing, party games and a sparkler exit to finish the evening.
What did Danielle & Will say about us?
“We looked at the pictures the afternoon we got the link and loved them!! You have both done such an amazing job. We’re so happy with what you were able to do for us. We have also passed the link on to family and it’s been nothing but great feedback! Thank you so much again!!!”
Congratulations again to a lovely couple. We wish them all the very best for a long and happy future together. Here are just a few photos from their day…
