Way back in May we managed to fit in a week away in a lovely holiday cottage in Flamborough on Yorkshire’s east coast. It was our first holiday away with Archie (our mini dachshund) who was almost a year old at the time, and it wasn’t the warmest week but it was dry, and sunny at times so I guess we can’t complain! I’ve been meaning to post these photos for ages but we’ve been so busy and now Colin is busy putting more images together for more blog posts, so I can finally squeeze it in!
First thing’s first after a couple of hours in the car and getting settled in at a cottage by the sea – fish and chips from one of the two delicious chippies in Flamborough village!
Then it was off to visit Flamborough Head and see the lighthouse. It looks a bit like I’m waving my fist angrily in the picture below but in reality I’m holding up a camera whilst trying to keep hold of Archie who wanted to explore EVERYTHING, including the edge of the cliffs!
Down onto the beach for Archie’s first glimpse of sand and the sea…he wasn’t quite sure what to make of it and tried to snuffle half of it up his nose!
After a long day exploring, you have to rest your head somewhere…
One of my main reasons for wanting to visit this area was to visit the RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs and (hopefully) see the puffins!
Well…it’s a puffin!
And lots of gannets!
Excuse my dishevelled state; it managed to be cold, windy and really bright all at the same time…hence my wrapped up look with a beanie and shades!
We stopped off at Bondville Model Village near Bridlington which was really cute. Archie was fascinated by the train that continuously went around the model railway. If he could’ve just gotten himself onto those tracks he would’ve been chasing it round all day!
Thankfully I saw this dead shark on the beach before Archie did! Not quite sure how he didn’t smell it out…not much of a hound after all, eh?
And Colin found something much more exciting…a fossil!
We didn’t pick such a great day for our trip to Filey. It was cold, grey and windy. Unlike a few weeks later when we returned for Maddy and James’ pre-wedding shoot!
Back in Flamborough, the sun returned…
And Archie discovered that he loved to tunnel through the two sofas in the living room!
We had a great week although I’m not sure how relaxing it was. I think we were more tired when we got home than when we left, and summer has been a blur for us with all the weddings we’ve photographed this year. And we’re still not finished yet! More blog posts coming soon…
