Why we think you benefit from having husband and wife wedding photographers
Before we start, I should make it clear that we’re not saying that you have to have two wedding photographers. We know some amazing solo photographers, and indeed, we only had one photographer at our own wedding (although in fairness, there were only 20 guests!) But there’s no doubt in our minds that there are benefits to having two of us. Being husband and wife wedding photographers takes it that one step further, for us.
Put simply–it works for us, and judging by what many of our past couples have said, it certainly worked for them too. It’s what we believe gives our couples the most all round coverage of their day, with two photographers who work together all the time, and know eachother inside and out. It gives our couples the best experience possible.
So, what are the benefits of booking husband and wife wedding photographers?
Two full time professional photographers
We’re both full time professionals and we’re each capable of photographing a wedding single-handedly, but we choose to work together for a reason.
We’ve worked as a team for over 7 years now. As a married couple, we know each other completely (for better or for worse!) We know exactly how the other one works. Heck, we can communicate across a room with nothing more than a look! It just makes perfect sense.
We can literally be in two places at once!
As there are two of us, if you’d like coverage of both of you getting ready before the ceremony, we can do it! For us, a wedding day is never about one of you more than the other. You’re both getting married and it’s a day about the two of you, equally. So we think it’s lovely for each of you to see what the other was doing before you walk down the aisle.
“I really enjoyed seeing the photos of the boys getting ready before I arrived. Likewise Ben loved the photos as the girls went from PJs to dresses!” Laura & Ben
Having two of us is also really helpful during the ceremony. Usually there’ll be one of us at the front, and one at the back. This allows us to capture the same moment from a totally different perspective. For example, it’s physically impossible for one photographer to capture you walking down the aisle, as well as capturing your partner at the same time. But with the two of us, it’s totally possible.
During the drinks reception, which is a particularly busy part of the day for us, it also means we can be in two places at once. For example, Colin can be capturing you and your guests whilst you mingle for drinks, and I can be capturing all the beautiful details in the function room (or marquee/tipi) before your guests sit for the wedding breakfast.
If your timeline is tight, or things are running late, it can be particularly useful in making sure that everything is covered.
And we’re still able to do all of this whilst remaining unobtrusive. We blend into the background to capture your day as naturally as possible.
Doesn’t it mean you get in the way more?
Absolutely not! Some may argue that we’ll be more obtrusive if there are two of us. We would totally disagree. I don’t think you’d ever notice that there was an extra photographer ‘in the way’. For much of the day, we’re photographing different things, in different places (the beauty of having two photographers) so we’re still very discreet. In fact, it’s one of the things our couples generally tend to comment on, in the most positive way.
“We hardly noticed you were there, you were both so professional and discreet, however more than approachable and made our day so special.” Hannah & Ricky
We know what it’s like to plan a wedding
Obviously, capturing so many weddings has given us a lot of insight into the day itself. But being married ourselves and planning our own wedding, means we’ve also experienced it all personally. We understand exactly what you’re going through, from both a male and female perspective!
We can relate to the excitement, the stress, and all the little details involved. In fact, we often think of things you may not have thought to ask, and we can give you as much (or as little!) support as you need along the way.
Two complementary photography styles
Our wedding photography style is relaxed, natural and creative, and for the most part on your wedding day, we capture things as they happen.
But, we’re still two individuals, with our own ideas and visions. For example, during your engagement and wedding portraits, Colin is usually focused on the big picture, whilst making you feel comfortable and relaxed. Meanwhile, I’ll be looking for alternate angles, and keeping an eye on details to make sure your hair isn’t out of place, or your dress isn’t scrunched up.
Having two of us also means that whilst one is concentrating on setting up the perfect shot, the other can try something different. For example, I’m always looking for that moment in between shots, where you’re not paying attention. I love capturing a natural moment between the two of you, whether that’s a giggle, a sneaky kiss, or ‘that look’ you always give each other.
